We are looking for a full time mixed or primarily small animal veterinarian.  Bovine, rectal, and surgical skills are a plus but the position can be from 50/50 large animal/small animal mix to 100% small animal.  New grads will be considered.  We offer a competitive salary with full medical & dental insurance, paid vacation, meeting days & holidays, CE allowance, bonus/profit sharing plan, VIN membership, as well as all professional dues and licensing fees.

Summary: Assists Doctors in performance of multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examination, dental procedures, surgeries, blood drawing, lab testing, immunizations, euthanasia as well as client education, marketing and inventory maintenance.  Requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases and preventative health care recommendations.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  1. Provides patient care and treatment of hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients.*
  2. Administers and monitors anesthesia.*
  3. Administers IV fluids including catheter placement.*
  4. Performs laboratory tests as directed.*
  5. Performs blood draws and injections.*
  6. Takes and processes radiographs.*
  7. Calculates dosage calculations of medications including IV fluids.*
  8. Completes documentation of treatments, laboratory results, and patient observations in medical record and computer.*
  9. Schedules surgical and medical appointments.*
  10. Assists and supervises assistants and kennel workers as directed.*
  11. Dispenses and administers medications and vaccines.*
  12. Completes DEA/drug log entries.*
  13. Performs dental procedures including extractions.*
  14. Provides client communications and education including patient status, explanation of medications and preventative care recommendations.*
  15. Maintains cleanliness of work areas.*
  16. Prepares patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery.*
  17. Cleans, maintains, and sterilizes instruments, equipment and materials.*
  18. Restrains animals for veterinarian or other staff members as directed.*
  19. Trains technicians as needed.*
  20. Maintains inventory in pharmacy and treatment areas as needed.*
  21. Acts as veterinary assistant to doctors.
  22. Acts as surgery/ in patient care assistant.
  23. Acts as kennel attendant.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:

Ability to record, work, and read documents in word processing software; spreadsheet software, and Avimark (practice software).



NYS Licensed Veterinary Technician and/or completed educational qualifications to sit for licensing exam.



To perform this job successfully, an individual must use a variety of equipment including x-ray machine, x-ray processor, microscope, blood machines, laser ultrasound machine, dental x-ray machine, anesthesia machine, and patient monitors.
